We’re pleased to confirm that the 5th and 39th South West Cheshire Scout Groups have merged, creating a stronger, sustainable Group while retaining the history and identity of both.
The newly merged Group will be led by Jason Jones as Chair and Mike Brown as Group Lead Volunteer. Sections will be able to operate under both the 5th and 39th names and colours, ensuring that the heritage and identity of both Groups can be carried forward.
From September, the existing 39th SWC sections will meet at the Group’s premises on School Lane, Elworth, with Beavers and Scouts meeting on Mondays and Cubs on Wednesdays.
We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Rob Cave and Mark Castle, who step down as Chair and Group Lead Volunteer of the 39th after leading the Group for the past six years. We’re very grateful for the time, commitment and leadership they have given to the Group during that time. Happily, neither is disappearing from Scouting, with both continuing in other roles across South West Cheshire.
Plans are being developed to open a new 5th SWC Squirrel Drey in the coming months. As well as providing our first capacity for Squirrels in Sandbach, we hope this will be the first step towards establishing further sections under the 5th SWC name in the future.
A big thank you to everyone who has helped make the merger possible, and best wishes to Jason, Mike and the whole team as they begin this new chapter.
