A Day of Celebration and Achievement: The St. George’s Day Parade of King’s Scouts at Windsor Castle, Sunday 26 April 2026

Back in December 2025, Fabio Cura, a member of Fiennes ESU in South-West Cheshire, achieved the King’s Scout Award—the top award a Scout can achieve. It was no small undertaking, but one he was determined to complete. Setting himself the personal goal of achieving it before his 18th birthday, Fabio rose to the challenge with focus and ambition—an outstanding accomplishment.

There were moments along the way when the journey tested him, both mentally and physically. Yet, in true Fabio fashion, he showed resilience and determination, pushing forward when it mattered most. To earn the award, he completed his Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, gave 18 months of service as a Young Leader with Shavington Cub Scouts, camped for a minimum of 24 nights, and took part in six International, Community and Values activities. All of this was achieved alongside the demands of studying for his A-levels.

Among the many challenges, Fabio describes Cheshire Hike as the toughest: a 32-mile trek over two days, carrying all his kit. He found it even more demanding than his DofE Gold expedition, due to the distance covered in such a short time—an achievement that speaks volumes about his determination and endurance.

His family are immensely proud of all he has accomplished, and of the unforgettable experience he recently enjoyed at the St George’s Day Parade of King’s Scouts at Windsor Castle. Marching alongside fellow recipients from Cheshire and across the UK, Fabio took part in a truly special occasion. The parade, led by the National Scout Band and the Band of the Grenadier Guards, was followed by the National Scout Service in St George’s Chapel within Windsor Castle. The service was relayed to the many parents, guests and award recipients gathered outside in the castle grounds, allowing all to share in the moment.

It was also a special family occasion as his grandfather, Dave Hollinshead, had also been invited to Windsor to celebrate his achievements in Scouting over the last 60 years, on being awarded the Silver Wolf, the highest award for adult volunteers. The family said they were especially privileged that Fabio and Dave were able to celebrate this special occasion together on the same day, and it also marked the fact that Fabio became the third consecutive generation to receive the award in his family. A wonderful day and one to be remembered for a long time.
