On 2nd December, during the Milldale Christmas Party, South West Cheshire District was delighted to celebrate the achievements of Carl, who was formally presented with the Silver Acorn Award.
The award, which recognises outstanding service to Scouting, was presented by our District Lead Volunteer, Dan Baldwin, following Carl being recognised by the Chief Scout earlier this year.
Carl has dedicated over 30 years of exceptional service to South West Cheshire District. Since becoming Chair of the Milldale Campsite Committee in 2015, he has overseen the transformation of the site into a thriving, financially sustainable activity centre. His leadership has supported numerous major developments, including new archery and shooting ranges and expanded on-site activities.
Alongside this, Carl has served as a District Trustee for over a decade, played a vital role in the development and maintenance of the District’s IT systems, and acted as Camp Chief for multiple District Camps, most recently coordinating a major camp in May 2025 attended by hundreds of young people and volunteers. In 2024, he further extended his contribution by taking on the role of District Programme Team Leader.
Carl’s dedication, leadership, and tireless behind-the-scenes work have had a lasting impact on Scouting across the District and beyond. The Silver Acorn is a thoroughly well-deserved recognition of his continued commitment and service.
Congratulations and thank you, Carl.
